Executive Summary
Dr. Giovanna Wolswijk is an early-career researcher specializing in mangrove ecology and blue carbon. She earned her PhD from Universite Libre de Bruxelles in 2024, where she conducted a comprehensive carbon budget assessment of the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve in Malaysia, one of the world's best-studied managed mangrove ecosystems. Her work integrates vegetation structure analysis, carbon estimation in plant biomass and sediments, and evaluation of ecosystem services to better understand the role of mangroves in climate change mitigation. Beyond ecological assessment, her research also examines the sustainability of mangrove forest management, bridging science with policy and conservation practice.
