Dr Nursalwa Baharuddin is a Malaysian malacologist—a scientist who studies snails, molluscs, and their roles in nature—and a marine biologist committed to protecting coastal and marine ecosystems. She is a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, where her work highlights how these often-overlooked animals help indicate ecosystem health and environmental change, particularly in mangrove, coral reef, and intertidal habitats. Trained in environmental science and biology in Malaysia, New Zealand, and Brunei Darussalam, Dr Nursalwa specialises in marine invertebrate ecology, with a strong focus on molluscs that are essential to nutrient cycling, food webs, and habitat stability.
